What is the Rite of Confirmation?
We are claimed as God’s child forever in the Sacrament of Baptism. The Rite of Confirmation (or Affirmation of Baptism) is an opportunity to publicly affirm God’s mercy and love for you, to declare your faith and intention to live in Christ, and to receive the special blessing of mentors and the faith community.
Who can be Confirmed?
While the Affirmation of Baptism may be used at many times throughout the life of a baptized Christian, at Shepherd of the Valley the Rite of Confirmation is typically celebrated as a faith milestone in the fall of 10th Grade. Participation in our Confirmation Ministry (offered for 6th-9th Graders) is a great way to prepare young people to say “yes” to the promises made by God, parents, and sponsors on their behalf at their baptism. Students may join at any time during that grade range and any point during the school year.
What do I need to do to participate in the Rite of Confirmation?
All participants in the Rite of Confirmation complete a “My Life and Faith” project and meet one-on-one with a Pastor or Youth Director. Key information is also collected: Baptism date and location, Confirmation Bible Verse, height (for the robe).
How much does the Rite of Confirmation cost?
There is no cost for this experience.
Who attends the Rite of Confirmation?
Anyone and everyone! 10th graders are encouraged to invite family, friends, baptismal sponsors, and faith mentors. Others from the Shepherd of the Valley community are also welcome to celebrate and bless our young people who affirm their faith.
