Shepherd Scholarship is open to congregation members who thoroughly complete an application and who are currently enrolled in, or are planning to enroll in, post-secondary education/training. Applicants must be on track to be a high school graduate or have earned their GED. Students may reapply annually.
Applications become available the end of January and are due in March (official dates given each year).
The scholarship committee, which is comprised of SOTV members with differing backgrounds, uses a blind process when evaluating the applications. A staff member of SOTV (who does not vote on who receives a scholarship) accepts, answers questions, and compiles all applications. This staff person also ensures applications are free of identifying material before committee review. All applications are evaluated on the same scale by all the members of the committee. Afterward, they meet to determine who will be awarded scholarships based on the evaluations.
The Scholarship Committee awards 1-3 scholarships with a minimum award of $1000. Award notification letters will are sent in May each year.
