On Sunday, August 21, a group from SOTV spent the afternoon at the Native American Powwow on the Reservation in Prior Lake. The Grand Entry had over 2,000 dancers in full native regalia with beautiful bead work and colorful feathers. The dancers begin at age 2 and dance well into their senior years.
It was interesting, inspiring, and heart-warming to watch as they expressed love of their heritage through dancing, singing, and the beating of drums. The dancers represent native tribes from several states. Part of the dancing is a competition with very strict rules, i.e., a dancer gets penalized if anything drops from any part of their regalia or if they do not stop dancing at the beat of the last drum.
It was a great experience! We hope you’ll join next time!
