In the Old Testament we read that there is a season for everything, but somehow Ecclesiastes chapter 3 leaves out: “there is a time for work and a time for retirement.” Following months of prayer, discernment, and planning, I announce my intent to begin my new season in life of retirement with Sunday, June 26, 2022, as my last weekend as pastor at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
When I was ordained as a Lutheran pastor 35 years ago, I had no inkling of the rewards and challenges, and the depth of God’s grace and love that I would experience through ordained ministry. If I could, I would do it all over again with 20 years of ministry with SOTV. This summer as I begin life after my call as pastor has ended, I will ever live in humble gratitude for the long, rewarding partnership I have had with staff and members, and for the way my family has been embraced by this faith community which we still gratefully called home.
