By Lois Perdersen (2017)
This year’s Annual Caring Quilt Day was a great success thanks to the 30 women who gave of their time and talents to make over 20 quilt tops on a beautiful Saturday. These quilts will be sent to provide comfort to children who are suffering from illness or abuse.
Since August 1, 2016, the Shepherd Quilters have sent 261 quilts to these places: Target House (a home away from home for children and their families while undergoing long term care); Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, for newly settled refugees; and centers for survivors of domestic violence at Lewis House and the Scott and Carver County programs. Another 50 plus quilts are in various stages awaiting willing hands to complete them.
A huge THANK YOU to the many who have donated their time, fabric, and completed tops to this worthwhile mission of SOTV. We welcome others who would like to join us in this endeavor and we willingly accept donations of good new fabric or money to purchase batting.
The Shepherd Quilters are happy they could share the beauty of the quilts in the Sanctuary and Narthex. Thank you to the pastors for blessing the quilts in worship before they are sent out to God’s precious children.
The Shepherd Quilters meet each Tuesday throughout the year from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. All skill levels are welcome to help quilt, cut, iron, and stitch. For more information contact Lois Pedersen at (952) 236-8993.
