Happy New Year! Our challenge as a congregation this year has been to think about and act upon, even more, how we are Sent to share the good news by serving others and sharing our faith. At the half way mark in the year, we can look back at what we have done and look forward to more events in the new year of 2018
“Will the REAL Jesus please stand up?”
This famous line is from the TV game show To Tell the Truth. Here is what I think of that sentence: even though I am a pastor and student of the scriptures, I catch myself wondering if I truly understand this strange, wonderful, confusing, and astounding Jesus we follow. It really would be nice to have a neat little box to put Jesus in that shows I have him all figured out!
Nationally known author and Bible scholar, Lois Tverberg, will lead a Saturday workshop at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church on February 24. By helping readers grasp the perspective of Jesus’ first listeners, Lois Tverberg equips them to read the Bible in ways that will deepen their understanding and enrich their lives.

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church has a new, casual worship experience on Sundays at 5:00 pm that includes dinner. This service is called “Breaking Bread,” because there is a full meal in the middle of the service, and also because participants of all ages and faith backgrounds are invited to share Holy Communion together.
Thanks to everyone’s help, we are now a SuperShelf and will be the model for future food shelves! Our Daily Bread food shelf is the second in the state to achieve certification.
Five members of SOTV had a productive trip to Houston for a week in late November to assist the Fuller Center in recovery after Hurricane Harvey. They worked on Carl and Connie’s house in League City, southeast of Houston. Although Carl is afflicted with MS, they provide care for their daughter and her three children.
