How Serving Dinner at the Shelter Impacts Members & The Community

Matrix Housing Services provides overnight shelter in Dakota County throughout the winter. Several churches have been involved in housing this rotational shelter. Shepherd of the Valley has offered assistance by holding fundraisers such as The Community Chest, providing financially for all of the shelter’s mattresses (using Capital Campaign dollars) and making meals for the 45 – 60 residents that have entered the church’s doors hungry.

On January 8, 2018, classes opened at Mpalapande Primary School with 60 bright and shiny new desks for the students, a beautiful three classroom building, and high hopes for the students who will be relieved of the 4 mile one-way walk to their previous school.

This past summer, our Endowment Fund made its first grants to support our mission. Included in those grants were funds to enable SOTV youth and adults in youth ministry to attend a Peer Leadership Ministry Conference. Read about the conference and to hear words from those who attended.
