watching & waiting

Advent: Watching and Waiting

Readings and rituals help us wait and watch for a Savior. However you and your family wait and watch, notice the deep longing that we all share: for God to come close to us.

Ideas for Grandparents

Consider these ideas for Advent Watching and Waiting that you can incorporate into your own unique circumstances:

  • As a regular caregiver for little ones: Watch the animated classic – or a least this excerpt of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” to help remind us what is the real reason for the season.
  • From a distance: Send out this Advent Color By Number and invite everyone to color and read “together” from wherever they are.
  • With older grandkids: Sign up together to help with one of the season’s many worship services. Assist in Advent Sunday worship by lighting a candle on the Advent Wreath and sharing a short reading, which can be done by an adult or an older child. Or volunteer to be part of the Hospitality Team or to Usher for Christmas Eve.
  • At a family gathering: Color, cut, and fold to make this Paper Nativity Scene that can be displayed (and easily transported).

How will you explore Advent Watching and Waiting with those you love?
